This French bronze medal by A. Lecomte was struck to commemorate the new Column of the Goddess monument in 1845. In 1792, Austrian forces laid siege to the French city of Lille after Napoleon Bonaparte's defeat during the French Revolution. The citizens of Lille held strong and refused to capitulate, and the Column of the Goddess monument--as well as this medal--honors the people of Lille.
27mm edge marked, some minor rom scuffs, weakly struck(normal for the type) some minor verdigris.
